How the money is spent
Through fundraisers and individual gifts, Friends of the Cancer Center provides programs and services to help meet the growing needs of cancer patients in our community. Since 1989, because of the support of this community, Friends of the Cancer Center has been able to provide:
- Emergency funding for dietary supplements, prescription medications, utilities and rent for those patients in dire need.
- A resource center where patients and their family members can learn more about cancer treatment and related issues through books, pamphlets, videos and computer access to the internet.
- Gas vouchers and taxi rides for patients of limited means who need transportation to and from their treatments at the Cancer Center.
- Wigs, turbans, hats and scarves, free of charge.
- Cancer screenings
- Spiritual support
- Camp Rockfish, an annual camp for patients and their families to celebrate life.
Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Friends of the Cancer Center is supported 100 percent by your donations and gifts. Contact, Deanna Benson-Reed, Friends of the Cancer Center Coordinator, for more information.
